Are You On Your Way to Bryant 5K?

Spotted: Two events in the Roto that promote healthy living. The Bryant "On My Way 5K" began sign-ups this week to encourage healthy physical living. On the flip side, a plethora of gift baskets were on display to promote giving (to Haiti) and a positive mentally healthy lifestyle.

"On My Way 5K": Bryant University’s Healthy Campus Coalition is hosting its second annual 5K on Saturday, May 8th and you can sign up now in the roto! To enter simply stop by one of their tables
located upstairs outside of the faculty cafeteria and outside of faculty suite A. Brittany Eager, a member of the Coalition describes the event as a fun way to get outside and be active. She said, People can walk it run it or whatever. The 5K is put on by the Healthy Campus Coalition which is to promote healthy lifestyles in the Bryant Community.”

Above: Philip Black and Chris Satawa, two members of the coalition, encourage a student to sign up.

Haiti Basket Raffle: Another main attraction in the roto is the basket raffle for Haiti. SPB’s community service committee is running the raffle in an effort to raise funds for Haiti. For five dollars you can get twenty raffle tickets and get a chance to win multiple gift baskets.

Above: Becky Ricard and Heather Lamoureus sit at the table for basket raffles.

Bryant's Got Talent!

Spotted: An abundance of fliers in Salmo and South that are "performance-themed," with a stage, curtain, and microphone on each piece of paper. Are the Bryant Players putting on yet another performance, or is another Bryant organization trying to promote an upcoming event?

The fliers belong to none other than the Alliance for Woman's Awareness. Yesterday they sat in the Roto selling tickets for their upcoming event, "Showtime at the Apollo." This is more commonly known among the Bryant & Facebook community as "Bryant's Annual Talent Show".

For the past three days, this organization has sat in the Roto during class hours in an eager attempt to have successful ticket sales, in addition to putting fliers on every table in Salmo.

Did their attempts grab your attention?

If you are interested in attending, the event will be held TONIGHT (April 28th) at 9:00 p.m. in Janikes. The cost is $3.o0 for students and $5.00 for non-students.

Come out and see the diverse talent that Bryant students offer!

Repeat Tables

Spotted: Two tables in the Roto that are not unfamiliar. Did these tables not receive enough attention the first time around, or are these tables trying to convey a different message than the first time they set up camp in the Roto for the day?

Delta Zeta Turtle Tug: Delta Zeta has yet again set up tables so teams can sign-up for their fundraiser event for their national philanthropy, The Painted Turtle Camp (event is described in more detail in a prior post). Delta Zeta has worked hard at promoting this fundraiser with their constant P.R. in the Roto and even outside of the Roto. Claire Divver, Delta Zeta President, spoke up during the last Greek Life Panhellenic/Interfraternity Council Meeting to encourage teams to sign up. Has their P.R. campaign been successful? Only time will tell; at their event next Wednesday.

SPB Third Eye Blind Concert: Throughout the past week, SPB has received the most attention in the Roto, often times making it nearly impossible to walk through the Roto because the line to get to their table is so long. However, two days ago (April 21) the crowd cleared out. SPB sold out of tickets for the concert in record time. Hopefully the majority of the student body got their tickets in time, since SPB sold out while they were selling "guest" tickets. The students must be excited about the concert, in addition to whatever guests are coming. Let's hope Bryant students got their tickets in time, or else it is going to be a sad May 1 for them.

Delta Chi Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament: Although not previously mentioned, and although the event has already passed; Delta Chi, a fraternity on campus, promoted their Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament in the Roto on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The fraternity held the tournament to further raise money for their national philanthropy, The V Foundation for Cancer Research. They have held additional events in the past for the philanthropy, but the members were excited to hold a new event, different from their yearly events, such as the DPS softball game or the Rock-a-Thon, they hold. It was only one dollar per person to play and the winner received a twenty-five dollar gift cards. At such a low cost, hopefully their table-sitting skills in the Roto paid off.

The Beginning Of The End

Spotted: Two separate tables in the roto with one common theme - celebration. Spring Weekend & Senior week are quickly approaching, an excitement in certainly in the air. Despite the forested gloomy weather, SPB promises to bring a fun-filled weekend to everyone on campus. And for the seniors, this is going to certainly be a perfect way to capture the last moments of senior year. You don't want to miss this!

Spring Weekend: This week, the SPB team has been spotted in the Roto selling guest tickets ($35) for the weekend and nostalgic spring weekend t-shirts. SPB has come up with two "Bryant Loves the 90's" designs to choose from (featured below), and each shirt costs only $5. One of the shirt designs has the old school Nintendo controller, while the other has a fanny pack. The back of both shirts displays all of the events that will be occurring. Everyone is undoubtedly excited to sit back and take a break, and people have been flooding the SPB tables all week. Rumor has it that all student and guest tickets are sold out. Administration is also gearing up for the weekend, and sent out a spring weekend policy reminder e-mail this morning.

Senior Week: Senior Week tickets will continually be on sale in the Roto on Wednesday from 10-2 and 5-7, and Thursday from 10-2. Seniors are reminded to pick up their Senior Week packets in their Bryant mailboxes. When approaching the tables in the Roto, seniors are reminded to bring their registration form (back page of the senior week packet), Bryant ID, and their payment. It is also noted that Senior Ball table sign-ups will be occurring in the roto as well. Class committee members encouraged your form your table before signing up to avoid confusion. Any further questions should be e-mailed to the Class of 2010 Committee at: Class2010@organizations.bryant.edu

Let the Games Begin!

Spotted: Army shirts taking over the Roto! Last Friday was the kick-off to Greek Week; a week, much like the Olympic Games, where sorority and fraternity chapters on campus compete against one another, in hopes of becoming the "gold medalist" of Greek Week.

On Friday, members from various chapters sat at a table in the Roto hoping to educate the student body on what exactly Greek Week is and the events that will be taking place this week.

The theme for Greek Week 2010 is "army." The Greek Week shirts resemble an army shirt and have the slogan "If you weren't drafted, you got shafted."

This weeks events are as follows:

Friday, April 16th - Relay for Life
5pm - 11am at the Track

Sunday, April 18th - Lipsync
8pm in Janikies

Monday, April 19th - Greek Olympics
5pm at the Bryant Center Lawn

Tuesday, April 20th - Nugget Bowl
8pm in South

Wednesday, April 21st - Photo Hunt
8pm in the Rotunda

Thursday, April 22nd - Chariots for Charity
5pm in South

Saturday, April 24th - Basketball and Knockout with BBQ
2pm at the Hall 17 basketball courts

Sunday, April 25th - Townhouse Clean-up
TBA in front of Hall 1

Sunday, April 25th - Greek Life Banquet
5pm in Bello

Last night was the lipsync competition, where teams were judged on creativity, lipsyncing, use of props, level of enthusiasm, audience response, and incorporation of the army theme. Tau Kappa Epsilon was first place, followed by Sigma Chi and Delta Zeta.

(Above: TKE during their winning performance.)

Any student is welcome to attend this week's events and cheer on one of the largest organizations on campus, while they celebrate "being Greek!"

Spring Weekend at Bryant

Spotted: SPB in the roto selling tickets for this year's Spring Weekend concert. Who will be performing? None other than Third Eye Blind! Their most popular hit songs debuted in the 90's on their self titled album. The hits consist of "Semi-Charmed Life", "Never Let You Go" and "Jumper".

SPB is the largest student organization on campus and is in charge of hosting Spring Weekend at Bryant every year. After having Fabolous perform last year, the Spring Weekend Band Selection Committee listened to student opinions about bringing a rock band to campus this year. "Only the senior class has experienced a rock band during Spring Weekend with OAR in 2007. SPB felt that the rest of campus was ready for a rock concert experience. Third Eye Blind is such a fun group with energizing music that will bring campus to life during this year's Spring Weekend," says Meghan Aloisio (The Archway).

The concert will be held on Saturday, May 1st at 7 p.m. in the main gym.

Other events to look forward to this weekend include:

Friday:
2-4 pm Jason Levasseur will be playing on the Bryant Center lawn
5pm Festive Meal in Salmonson

Friday night:
Big Bingo in the Main Gym at 10:30, followed by a BBQ outside the Bryant Center

Saturday:
12-4 pm Field Events and WJMF Springstock on the lawn
7 pm Third Eye Blind Concert

Sunday:
9 pm outdoor movie

Business Buzz

Spotted: The entire Roto is a buzzing hive as Freshman flock and swarm, filling all the tables with their Business 101 posters. The mess of colors, clicking heels, knotted ties, and scrutinizing professors are sure to add some spice to your day...or at least some obstacles on your walk to class.

What's the point you ask? The Business 101 Marketing Competition. Freshman spread their trifold posters in promotion of their business plans. The infamous 4 P's: price, product, promotion, and place can be seen in countless variations.

Freshman relish the chance to wear their first business outfits: suits, skirts, colored shirts, and high high heels as professors stroll the rows in search of more information.

Be sure to spot for yourself and learn more about the future of Bryant!

Sign Up For Your Future

Spotted: Familiar faculty faces and white, yellow, and pink slips on the fly.

What is going on do you ask? The Degree Declaration Fair. On Monday, faculty members from all departments were available to authorize your major and minor declarations. As a Bryant student, we are all aware that we must concentrate in both business and liberal arts; you must major in one, and minor in the other.

For example:
1. Business Administration Major with Marketing Concentration & History Minor
2. Communications Major & Finance Minor

Don't worry if you missed the fair, you can always schedule an appointment with your academic advisor (401-232-6210) to make declaration arrangements.

Swing Juice in the Roto?

Spotted: A new energy drink has made it's way onto Bryant campus!

Above: Melanie Schleeweis-Connor and Courtney Mannix pose for a picture during their marketing campaign to create a "buzz" about Swing Juice.

Turtles in the Rotunda?!

Spotted: An array of pink and green streamers and decorations transforming the Roto into a promotional marketing day for Delta Zeta's philanthropy, The Painted Turtle Camp. It was nearly impossible to walk through the Roto without wondering what exactly all this hype was for. Wouldn't you like to know?

The Painted Turtle Camp is an authentic camp experience that allows terminally and chronically ill children to attend camp free of charge. Delta Zeta holds an annual "Turtle Tug," to help support this cause. At this event, teams of 5 engage in a tug-of-war competition over a tarp of green jell-o. The winning team will receive a $100 American Express gift card.

On Friday, Delta Zeta used the Roto to encourage teams to sign up for this event which will be held on April 28, at 3:00 p.m. on the Bryant Center Lawn. The cost is a mere $25 per team, and both food and chances for raffles will be provided.

To encourage teams to sign up, Delta Zeta took to additional marketing techniques besides the decorations in the Roto. Delta Zeta had an arts and crafts table, handed out cups of jell-o, and allowed students to decorate "tortoise-shell cookies."

If interested in signing up a team, join the Delta Zeta Facebook group to receive more information, or contact Delta Zeta President, Claire Divver at cdivver@bryant.edu.
